enemigoman Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Hello: I use ACAD 2007 and I have inherited (meaning: I didn't create it) a 2D drawing that contains a lot of unused blocks, layers and linetypes. However, I cannot purge them. This is what I have done so far: First, I purged all regular and nested items in the drawing. Next, I used the "quick selct" command to identify which items had the wrong properties and, again, purged the drawing. Then, I went into each block definition via "block editor" and again, changed whatever properties were wrong with all items. Purged again. At his point, even though I have succesfully purged a lot of garbage, there are still layers that apparently are not in use. Worst of all, when I select the "view items you cannot purge" options in the "purge" command, I can see there are dozens of blocks that are there, but for some reason are not selectable through "quick selct". I'm counting on the fact that the unused layers can be eliminated if these blocks are. But how do I eliminate them? Thanks Quote
ReMark Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 WBlock out everything you can see. Start a new drawing and insert what you selected in the first step. Quote
enemigoman Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Hello: Thank you o much ReMark. I would not have thought of that in a million years! The issue of the otherwordly blocks has been resolved. However, I still have 3 layers that I can't get rid of. I went again block by block looking for them, but to no avail. I also looked in the dim-styles and they are not there either. At this point I think I can live with those 3. However, if somebody knows how to find unused layers in ACAD 07, I will appreciate it. Thanks Quote
ReMark Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 You're entirely welcomed. I'm sure the idea would have come to you eventually. Three layers you cannot get rid of? Here's what I would try. Switch to one of those layers. Draw a line segment. Now switch to layer "0". Use the LayerDelete command and select the line segment you just drew. Did the layer finally go away? Quote
enemigoman Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Hello: ReMark, you're the man. Problems solved 100% Thank you Quote
ReMark Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Either it was a lucky guess or I'm just passing along a tip I learned when I first joined CT. Whatever the case I am glad to hear that all your problems have been solved. Happy to have been of some small service. See you around I hope. Cheers mate. Quote
enemigoman Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Hi again: It seems that I celebrated a little to soon. The above mentioned problems were solved. However, in a new, related drawing, I have now a text style that won't go away. I already checked in the dim styles and it doesn't feature there either. It is also not the current text style and not inside any block. Is there a similar command as LayDel that works with text styles? I have tried unsuccesfully semantically similar text commands. Thanks Quote
uddfl Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Try filtering the text style through FILTER or QSELECT Quote
enemigoman Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Hello: Thank you all for your help. Regarding this last part of my post, about the text styles, it turned out that there were some attributes within a block which were physically hidden behind some parameter "thunder" icons. I had failed to use qselect within the block editor and was just picking manually the attributes I could actually see. Again, thanks a lot. Quote
ReMark Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I love self-correcting problems. Makes life so easy. Quote
mikitari Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Dear community! Please help in the similar problem, that I can not solve. I have tried various methods: recover, audit, purge, -purge everything, and still no solutions to this. Every little drawing we work on is over 1 mb, although ith has only a fue lines, or dimensions inside. But just WBLOCK its contents, and the resulting file is 10x smaller. What remains embedded inside the old files that can not be purged? I won't even upload files for comparisons, for it exceedes 1mb, but for example a simple dimensions of 20 m2 plan is about 1,25 MB, and after WBLOCK the size is 169 kb. What troubles me a lot is that I suppose I may have this problem in most of drawings… Does anybody have an idea what is it? Quote
ReMark Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 AutoCAD 2007...too bad. I'd suggest that you export to a Microstation .DGN file then reopen the file in AutoCAD but that option is not available to you. I suppose you could download and install the latest version of AutoCAD and try it. If it works then you would have two options: run the process on all affected drawings before the 30-day trial expires or bite the bullet and upgrade. Quote
mikitari Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I did what I could with Acad 2007 and 2010, no big difference, or unfortunately file size even bigger now from 1.25 to 1.525 MB. To bad I can not attach it for you to exam Quote
PotGuy Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 If you want to upload a 1mb or larger file use something like Dropbox and link it into your next comment. Quote
mikitari Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Hi guys! here's the link to two samples, in example: dimensions, the base drawing: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78049495/X-43.dwg and the WBLOCK result: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78049495/Wblock_X-43.dwg Let me know if you found out something about those dwo drawings. mikitari Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Hi, does anybody have an idea what is wrong with those drawings, and what is that thing which can not be purged from it? I'd hate to have to script and wblock all drawings of the project Hi guys!here's the link to two samples, in example: dimensions, the base drawing: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78049495/X-43.dwg and the WBLOCK result: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78049495/Wblock_X-43.dwg Let me know if you found out something about those dwo drawings.
