therock005
I need to buy a laptop for work, in which i'll be using Autodesk vertical application and ESRI products and i need recommendations as to whcih will be the best choice. Most people say go for Dell, but Dells compouters are very expensive for some reason. Is it possible to spend close to a 1000 Euros and get a decent laptop for the job or is there a specific reason i need to trust Dell? I want to hear what you guys to say. tzframpton
go with an HP Workstation. This will give you the needed graphics card to run the 3D portion of the vertical AutoCAD products efficiently as well as dual core processors, adequate RAM, etc. Check here, on the bottom left click "View Recommendations": http://h30216.www3.hp.com/ASA/Controller;jsessionid=F4FE8494E47F5B7F9402FC66B12D6CFC?tagid=F4FE8494E47F5B7F9402FC66B12D6CFC$0$84$10717$en_GB&state=1S1&_AD_195R22=170&r=218878992
therock005
Your Link doesnt work, although i was already thinking of HP, and possibly Toshiba. tzframpton
That has a gaming card, and not a workstation. You'll be better off with a workstation graphics accelerator in your laptop.

chulse
This is what I have. Runs ESRI and Civil3D just fine http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/en/WF06a/321957-321957-64295-321838-3329741-3355679.html
tzframpton
you mean like quadrofx or ati FireGL? What's the benefit, and where do i get these laptops? Exactly. Those are meant for CAD apps like the ones you're running, don't go with a gaming card - those are for games.
Tankman
Try a Thinkpad™! Perhaps with a built in second monitor? Great with AutoCAD but, never tried any of the verticals. I had Dell's, HP's, more. I stayin' with the Thinkpad™ line forever. Excellent pricing on eBay for used IBM and Lenovo laptops. I have four, my latest is a T60 Duo Core, 60 GB HDD, 2 Gigs of memory.
