I am a new, solitary Autocad Mechanical 2008 user in this office. I need help removing unused linetypes from the completely empty template file that came with Autocad. I did the purge that I read about on this website and that removed a few but there is still alot of clutter. I'm confused because there is nothing drawn on the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you delete the layers individually from the layer manager? It is possible some layers could be in use on different layouts in the drawing, or XRef's which are loaded but unattached. There might also be some multiview blocks loaded in the style manager which make use of the layers in question. Or there may be lines on those layers, but they're frozen/locked. Try a QSELECT filtered to one of the layers to make sure it is empty, too.

check that you don't use them in your dimstyles etc.

I have not used Mechanical 2008 before, so I am not sure if you have "Purge" command.

Check your layers and see what type of linetype is set of each. The linetype wont go if it is attached to a layer. And the layer wont go if it is in the drawing.

Would it be possible to up load the drawing?

It maybe something very simple!

Well, I checked what you guys suggested and this is what I found. This file has only one layer "0" and the linetype is continuous. I did the qselect on that layer and I got "no entities to select." All the dimstyles and such are continuous. Here is something I did find out though. The acad.dwt file from my free trial Autocad 2008 at home has only 3 linetypes listed. So, I emailed it to myself at work and brought it up in Autocad Mechanical 2008 and the same file now has 12 linetypes that I can not delete. So, I'm wondering if maybe it's an Autocad Mechanical thing. I would upload the file except, here's where you laugh, I don't know how. This isn't a real urgent problem, I just thought I could easily get rid of some things that I don't need. I feel overwhelmed enough as it is.

Thanks for your suggestions and for all the things I learned on other subjects from this forum.

AcadM. is just autocad + extra's.(beta stuff generally)

Are you sure your using Acad mec, or just the autocad exe, thats in the mech install file, as the acad.exe is tha same for normal acad, and then theirs autocadmec.exe.

The only reason i ask is because their should be two layers , in mech, 0 & M0 (some thing like that), mech also needs linetypes defined for standard parts etc, Its easyer enought to redfine them to what you need. Because what harm are they doing their??

Sorry im not much help
