Making a 3d model into dimensioned 2D drawings??

Hi, im new to AutoCad and i've been learning over the past week. I really need someones help. I have made a 3d model of a bike shed and I now need to get this into top, side, and front view (like an engineering drawing) and dimension it.

I also need to change the lines that you wouldn't see to "hidden" dotted lines.

Can someone please tell me where to start? :)

Does Civil 3D have such commands as Flatshot, SolView and SolDraw?

BTW...your bike shed appears to be floating. What anchors it? Would you have plates at the ends of each column or will the columns be anchored into a concrete footing of some kind?

Yes it does have those commands. I've looked into them but I have not found much and im a bit stuck...

Haha yes.. it does appear to be floating, its also too big (correcting that now) and it does not follow the laws of perspective....

Is what I'm trying to do relatively simple or should i just draw by hand? :|

oh also, its going to be bolted to the floor!

You have board skills? Dang. I thought no one taught manual drafting any more! LOL

I would suggest that you take a moment and consult your Civil 3D Help files regarding the commands I just mentioned. After reading about the commands and giving it some thought then it is up to you to decide which way is best to proceed. If you go the CAD route we have plenty of knowledgeable members who can answer your questions and point you in the right direction. Some may even choose to demonstrate commands as well. All we ask is that YOU do the work as it will benefit you now and well into your future career. There is no sense in one of us doing your assignment. We don't the need grade you do. Follow me?

I follow you! :) I was joking, I wanna finish this off on AutoCad. Would you be able to explain in a none help file way how to do this? Im sure its simple.

I can put it in the top view and dimension the top, but the dimensions stay there when I move round.. and when I attempt to dimension the sides, they stay on the top view (in the X,Y plane) I somehow need three seperate sheets so i can dimension them without modifying the model.... :)

"Explain in a non Help file way how to do this?"

Are you saying it is as clear as mud? LOL

Essentially the bike shed would be created in model space at full size. Then you switch to paper space. In paper space you create all the necessay views (top, front, side and isometric even a section if need be) using the SOLVIEW command. Once you have created all these different views then, and only then, do you invoke the SOLDRAW command. SOLDRAW will extract the 2D views from the 3D geometry. It will also set up some basic layers for hidden lines, dimensions and hatching: -HID, -DIM and -HAT. This is just one way of doing it.

The second way is to use the FLATSHOT command. Personally, this is not a command I use often enough to elaborate further on. Fortunately you came to the right place as other forum members can jump in and help should this be the way you decide to go.

The third way is to use the command SOLPROF. Per the Help file: SOLPROF "generates only two blocks: one for the visible lines and one for the hidden lines of the entire selection set."

You must make the decision as to which way will work best for you. I suggest you take a moment and check out some online tutorials about all three methods before embarking on the task.
