cpriedel Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 hi I just installed 2010 on my PC but i also still have 2009 on it. How can i tell the computer to open all .dwg files with AutoCAD 2010 insteas of '09. If i try to use the "right-klick on file and open with..." it wont show up in the List u can choose your programs from (even after i browse for it) and keeps opening everything with AutoCAD DWG Launcher which is in the "Autodesk Shared Files". Any1 any idea how i go about this? Thanks in Advance Quote
cadboi08 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Can't you go Open With then browse to C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2010 or wherever it's installed and pick the exe (I think it's still acad.exe)? That works for me Quote
ReMark Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 According to AutoDesk this is the procedure you should follow: To change the application used to open a DWG file double-clicked in Windows Explorer: Open Windows Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog box, click the File Types tab. From the Registered file types list, select DWG AutoCAD Drawing, and then click Advanced. Select the Open action, and then click Edit. In the Application used to perform action box, enter the path and file name of the EXE file, or click Browse to select the application. Click OK in each dialog box to close all open dialog boxes. Quote
Cad64 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I have 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 loaded on my machine. I can make any of them the default by simply opening the version I want and then opening a drawing from the "File Open" dialog and then Save the drawing. Once I do this, that version becomes the default. Quote
cpriedel Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Mhhhh.... I guess im doing something wrong than. i am used to open the files from the explorer. I have opend files out of AutoCAD 2010 simply because it would keep open the files with AutoCAD 2009 when id open them from the explorer. Cadboi i tried the "open with". U know when u browse for a file and that file would show up in the list and u could klick on it and check "always open with this file"... Well that doesnt work for me. It let me browse but it wouldnt show up in the list. the only one showing is the Autocad launcher. ReMark i tried your suggestion and it turns out after some resets and "be sure this file exists" messages the AutoCAD launcher opens everything with AutoCAD 2010. hehe Sweet. Now i am going to restart the PC and see if it still works. Ill let you guys know and thanks again for all the help. Quote
ReMark Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thank you for updating us. I'm glad to hear your problem has been solved. Quote
Organic Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I done as above and now everything opens in 2010. However if I already have AutoCad 2010 open and go to open a dwg from a folder etc, it launches a new version of AutoCad rather than opens it in the existing open program like it used to. Suggestions? Quote
ReMark Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Dink: New question = new thread. OK? Try setting the system variable SDI from "0" to "1" and see if that helps. Quote
