Hi,

I was wondering if any of you can help me with this question. I am trying to import from AutoCAD 2008 into the computer program SAP2000.

I have drawn a model of a canoe by drawing about 25 cross sections using polylines. I then lofted these to form the outline of the canoe. Unfortunately, SAP only takes mesh polylines.

I am not sure how to convert my lofted model to be a mesh face or mesh polylines...if anyone could provide some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Try using Modify>3D Operations>Convert to Surface or _CONVTOSURFACE on the command line.

Thanks for the suggestion...I did tried this on the lofted as well as on the unlofted polylines, but it responded that the object could not be converted. I'm not sure why.

Have you tried exploding them? I would make a copy first. You may have to explode a couple of times until it is a body.

The file is too large to upload, but you can download lofted and unlofted cad files at:

The unlofted is under: final_done_unlofted

The lofted is under: final_done_one layer

Thanks for your help!

See if this works. What I did was made your lines that you lofted into closed polylines (_Pedit>Multiple>Close), then lofted those to create a 3D Solid (you had a lofted surface). I then exploded the 3D Solid and ended up with Surfaces. In previous version you could do a 3DSOUT and a 3DSIN, but 2008 doesn't have the 3DSOUT anymore.

Wow, looks great!! I'll try and recreate what you did as soon as I get back to a computer with both CAD and SAP.

Thanks so much.
