I and one of my collegues have been asked to remove some text off

the 3D models of our standard details, normally per item this would

only take about 15 minutes, however we are being delayed as, once

we create a shape as required to fit over the text, then subtract it

form the main model, it removes 99 % of text but on a few of the

drawings the text has remained protruding less than 1mm from the

main body of the 3d model.

we have tried re-doing above method on the drawing to no avail.

Have Audited the drawing(s) and there are no errors.

could anyone shed any light on the situation?

Thanks in advance

Since no image is provided we have no idea of the amount of text or the shape of the object but I would either slice it off or try using the move faces command and moving the text completely off the object whereupon it will cease to exist. If you slice it off go a little deeper then add back in what you need.

I would provide an image if i was allowed - not this time.

It's also the fact that each drawings slightly different. in 1 the problem's on a

cylinder shape, in another it's an angle and yet another it's a curve going into an

angle.

(don't ask me why text is in such awkward places, i was just told to get rid of

it.)

Aren't you glad someone decided to make the text actually part of the object and not separate? Now you have something to do other than read the newspaper and drink your tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

I normally would be but i've been staring at same 3 - 4 dwg's for abt 3 1/2 hours and managed to accomplish nought because of these ------ raised bits

Can you create some temporary 3D geometry that can be subtracted thus removing the offending text?

Like i've said in my first post, that's just not workind, and there's no reason for it.

I think i'm going to go S-L-O-W-L-Y insane over this.:?

Email me the drawing and I'll take a crack at it. It will give me an excuse to avoid sheetrocking this morning.

Wish i could, Drawing siz = 15 mb max allowed e-mail 5mb, otherwise i'd have

asked to do that, what i am gonna do is see if i can grap a couple of screenies

w/out the details that people are worried about being put out on net.

Try this - not sure it will work

create a circle and presspull or extrude and subtract to cut a cylinder or box down into the part.

Then use the Solid Edit Delete Face and select the side and bottom of the cylindrical hole. If you are luck the original outside face will repair.

BTW this would probably be pretty easy to repair with Inventor if you have access to it.

If you can't figure it out hollar back and I'll post an example.

Here is an example going from left to right.

On the left I have text both Imprinted (flush) on one side and raised on the other side of the ball.

Cut away the text (in this case I went all the way through but you only need to go deep enough for a full cut.

You have to be very careful about the faces to Delete - click in a face(s) not an edge.

Well, my zipped dwg was too large so maybe the pic will be enough.

Thanking you both for your inputs, the delete faces option did the trick.
