If I have a rectangular 3D solid (similar to a brick) with dimensions 8"x3"x1.5", and I want to change the length from 8" to 10", can I just extend the object somehow? Or do I have to start from scratch and redraw the whole thing?

Currently when I'm faced with this kind of problem, what I do is I copy the solid to a certain distance away from the original, this will make the object look longer (there would be two overlapping solids), then I will UNION the two solids. This is the only way I know how, hence the question above. :D

can't you just select the object, and 'stretch' it ?

Solidedit>Face>Extrude or Solidedit>Face>Move

You need to check on ALL the solid editting commands in addition to the Move Faces command mentioned above and see what they are capable of doing. Some normal commands, like fillet for example, will work on a solid but their execution is slightly different from norm.

I dont think you can in 2002. I think that was an 07+ thing as well.

if the object is truely a brick with square edges(no fillets) then extrude face will be perfect.

Remark, does move faces work if you are extending it off of the body of the solid? ive used it to move features around before within a solid but havent tried pulling them off.

fucarro's got it! for solids with filleted edges, I used MOVE. For non-filleted solids, EXTRUDE will do. Thanks guys!

I've used the Move Faces command to "extend" columns and beams.
