Hi

I am having a problem with the fuzz distance whilst try to deduct  a section form a solid. the part I am trying to remove is on a contoured  curve,

I can give it a mesh, however, I cannot convert to a sold. I keep getting a message that " object intersects itself" and  is "not closed".

I have altered the settings of the fuzz distance, but nothing works.

Any advice Please.

Best wishes

Your drawing has arcs, lines and points. What exactly are you trying to do?

Hi Thanks for the reply!

I can give  it a mesh, however. I cannot convert the mesh to a solid it comes up with a message that it is not closed and it intersects with itself!

Hi

I am trying to subtract a section of a solid with the four sided curve.

What I have seen on the web that allot of people are having this problem with AutoCAD!

I Drew and closed polyline in 2d and transferred it over to 3d and this I was able to use using the loft command .

But I need to know what the problem is with this curved drawing?

Can you provide the mesh? If the mesh is the problem, why not upload that?

You still haven't provided a step-by-step.

Hi

I have attached the drawing with the mesh you will see it cannot convert to a solid

I don't know how the join all the edges of the four side curve?

I have attached a dwg file,

Look forward to hearing from you.

Just me guessing if an object has no actual thickness it can not be made into a solid. Yes a mesh can be made.

You could make this shape possibly by drawing the arc copy vertically join ends, then extrude. You can make the offset very small so looks like a single arc.

Using rotate3d can align similar to your curve. If its a curve in all sorts of 3dpsaces then may need a NURB answer.

Just me guessing.

Hi Al

Thanks for the reply!

I have tried a Polyline but still I cannot get to mesh to convert to a solid.

I have made an outline of one end of the  structure in 2d and made it one object and transferred this to 3d and used the loft command using that outline and a diameter with a track between the 2 and it works fine.

I think there is a fundamental problem with this type of 3d curved structure in AutoCAD.

So I'll have   to use a vernation's of the loft command and adjust the various section of the form to give me what is required .

But thanks for the input !

Best wishes

The error means your mesh likely has self-intersections or is not watertight. Fuzz distance won’t fix this. You need to clean up the mesh, close any gaps, and remove overlapping geometry before converting it to a solid. Use a mesh repair tool to fix these issues.
