I'm stumped as to what causes a dynamic block to lose it's dynamic abilities. The reason I'm stumped is because it seems to be completely random.

For instance, I have a door block that includes the following actions: 2 flips, a rotate, a stretch and a handful of visibility states. I can copy and paste this block as many times as I want and it never looses it's dynamic abilities, even after I've modified it from it's original state.

I also have a section callout block that has two attributes in it, two stretch actions and a rotate action, and I can copy and paste this one without losing the dynamic abilities.

However, I have an elevation tag that only has a flip action and a rotate action with one attribute, but as soon as I copy and paste it, it creates an anonymous block that I can't refine.

My view tag only has a stretch action and a few visibility states with one attribute, and I also get an anonymous block with this one if I copy and paste it.

Is there some magical combination that I'm missing here?

if you want to be slightly amazed, have a good thorough forum search on just this topic. As far as I can make out this behaviour doesn't happen to everyone but it isn't rare either.

I have pipe blocks; i.e. a rectangle with a linear stretch action - nothing simpler, yet sometimes... there is no reason, I've given up hope.

Have you tried copying and pasting a troublesome block into a new dwg file? It'll not work in your current dwg but suddenly gets it's abilities back in a new dwg. It's just plain weird.

Wonderful thing is though, people have been asking this query since 2006, with NO response from Autodesk, and every version since does the same. Just makes those subscription payments all worthwhile...

Go on, look round the forums, it's amazing how many people have asked for so long with no solutions presented.

I'm starting to think Autodesk know what the problem is but it's of such a mind-blowing, product reputation destroying nature that they aren't telling anyone! (Anyone from Autodesk reading this is really, really welcome to put me straight here as it's just a humourous opinion!) (...or is it...).

my advice, when it happens take a deep breath, mutter darkly and redefine the dynamic behaviour.

Keep on shining .
