Have you ever started working on a DWG file and discovered at some point that it was created using incorrect units?

You can easily verify them with UNITS and see the DWG's insertion scale and other units-related settings before you begin making any changes.

When working with someone else's DWG or from another company, I always like to check the units first, rather than just trusting that it's set up properly.

It can save you headaches down the road when dealing with insertion scales of blocks, inserting or attaching references, etc.

Do you check UNITS as part of your standard procedure when you receive an unfamiliar DWG?

Here's a simple workaround. When you get a drawing from someone else, open a New drawing (from one of your templates). Xref their drawing into that one and Bind it as an insertion. That gives you a block, which you can edit to clean it up and then explode. If there's a scale problem, it will show up there.

Voila! You have their drawing with all your settings applied.

Though I would quite often check because I would need to change the PRECISION or make sure the INSUNITS are correctly set by using the UNITS command, I would seldom check the actual drawing units by using the -DWGUNITS command. I would say it's most important to make sure the current units are recognized by AutoCAD as mm or inches and etc than if it's Architectural/Engineering/Decimal.

We basically used our DWT so would insert an external dwg then way more than units were correct. The only disclaimer is that most of our dwg's started off with "Model" only no layouts. Our design process created those.

Agreed, the   -DWGUNITS   command is quite comprehensive, and particularly when receiving drawings from a non-team member.

When I want to use it, I expand my commandline history to display 5 or 6 lines, in one go,

all the better to display the numerous options.
