Welcome to the CADTutor forum keithozim.
Just to clarify your question, you want to draw a step-down transformation in plan view, correct? Are you going from a square or rectangle duct down to a circular duct? A little more detail would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am going from rectangular to rectangular duct.

I would draw it with the larger rectangle shown as a solid line and the smaller rectangle as a dashed line. Something like this:
8082
I don't normally draw ductwork so if I am wrong I ask that someone correct me. Thanks.

If the duct is "stepping down" as in changing elevations within the transition, then you note it - don't sorry about displaying it. Attached is an example with elevation notes to clarify. :)

I totally got that wrong. Thanks for educating both of us Styk. I thought he had one duct under the other. Ohhh...back to school I go.:(

haha, not a problem Mark. This is my trade, so naturally I will know the answer. I'm still not sure of his exact question, because its still a bit unclear, but I think I answered what he's after. We will see if he posts back. :)

Styk: The numbers in the boxes, are they the elevation notes? If so, how are they read?

Top of the box is the top height of the duct A.F.F. Bottom box is the bottom height of the duct A.F.F.
the duct size (ie: 36x24) is always 36" wide by 24" tall. :)
