Size Vs. Actual Size

Recommended Posts

I did some research on steel square tubes. I read that the tubes havea tolerance of +-.1 and that the manufactures are very good at making the minimum. Most likely to save money.

Do I model the stated size or the actual size?

We use stated size as the variable is so slight.

Ok. Thats what I thought you guys would say. It's just that 0.1 doesn't seem all that slight to me:\ Thanks.

And that why they are called dimensional tolerances.

Precise control of tolerances in steel forming/cooling is not economically feasible. Unless the demands of a project justify the additional cost then there is no reason to expect absolute perfection.
