Hello: I have a drawing that has been done in millimeters. at least...well, that's my question - was it actually done in millimeters?

under format ->units, millimeters is entered; also, when i enter measurement i get 1, which is for metric;

however, if you look at the dimension, you will see that they have chosen to display cm and I'm assuming that this is incorrect - but would like to verify this.

thanks,

Proctor

1.Use DISTANCE command (measure two endpoints).

2.Verify the dimension linear scale (DIMLFAC). DIMLFAC for 1:1 is 1.

3.Compare the two. If 1 says 1000 and 2 says 0.1, then there is a big possibility that you are in metric.

Another way to check is to plot it 1:1.

Totzky - thanks for your reply.

i'm working in 09 mechanical....when i enter command Distance, it displays: DISTANCE = 0.0000 (read only)

am i doing something wrong?

also, i'm actually trying to figure out if this drawing is in millimeters or centimeters. will following your instructions tell me this?

thanks again for your help.

Is it possible that the file was drawn in milimeters and the dimension controls changed to display in centimeters instead? You can change (and play with) the dimension scale / controls etc by hitting d

Here is a mini-sketch showing what I mean ....

hi naekid - thanks for your reply.

I see what you're saying. when i enter "d" command,

i see where you have the capability to have it display a certain way;

however, when i look there, i see nothing entered that would determine if they drew in millimeters but set the dimension to display in centimeters (see pic). i think i will therefore, ask the user that sent me this drawing so that i can ge to the bottom of what's really happening.

thanks again for your help.

when i draw a line 100 units in this same drawing, it gives me the same length as the orginal drawing. wouldn't this indicate that it's really 100 millimeters?

It is 100cm = 1m ???:?

I believe 100cm = 0.1m (as shown) and 1000cm = 1m :shock:

Maybe it is backward method but is working. Use DIMALTF to determine alternate units and you know you not in it.

when i enter dimaltf i get the following:

Enter a new value Dimaltf :

The alternate-units should be calculated based on 0.03937 which is close enough to the 0.0394 (rounding) which is telling me that the drawing is most likely drawn metric and the drawing units would be set in the control panel to cm instead of mm. To change the units used, at the command-line type UNITS to make your adjustments.

Dimaltf tell you what is alternate dimension unit used based on default template. So what you do : when get any dwg from other station first check Dimaltf

25.4 mind you are in imperial

0.03937 you are metric.

Hope this help a bit.

If by the "red-colored text" you mean You dimensioned it, yes your in millimeters.

If you want us to verify, attach your .dwg file and we'll take a look.
