Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I got a drawing with about 30 tabs on, and i need to pdf each tab as a seperate pdf (because its a seperate drawing( is there any quick way of doing this all in one instead of each tab one by one? Quote
Glen Smith Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Full version CAD is File - Publish, then follow directions, but 07 LT may not have publish. I'll let someone else with more version knowledge respond to that. Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 i got full version 2007. not on LT anymore Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 Right ive got into that, but how do i go about using it, all the tabs need to be printed out 1:1 on a1 in pdf. i may sound daft for asking, but ive never used it before Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 How do i save the page setups so i can import them into another drawing, if thats how to go about publishing, im not sure if im doing it correctly Quote
Glen Smith Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Are all the tabs set up for 1:1 on A1? If so then all you do is File -Publish, then select PDF in the Publish to drop down. Select all the layouts that you want in your PDF in the Sheet name area. In the Publish Options select if you want a multisheet or 1 layout per file. (I leave the rest of the options as is.) Then click Publish, specify a file name, I don't bother to save the sheet list since it's easier to select them than remeber what list is what. Then all you need to do is wait. And wait, and wait. I have come to the realization that there is no QUICK way to create PDF's. It may not require a lot of work on my part, but the computer is going to be busy for a while. If you need to change the layouts to a different scale or page size, I've not had much luck with that. I think that Chelsea1307 has 'studied' Publish, maybe she can help out. Glen Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 There is no PDF in the drop down menu, I think I sorted it by seting up one tab in the page setup manager. i clicked publish but it seemed to take ages so i canceled it Quote
Glen Smith Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 It WILL take ages. Watch the Plot Progress indicator down in the bottom right corner. it should show you where it is on the process (page 1...N) and give you a finished indication. I plotted my Drawing 1 that I have added a picture of my kids to. With 2 layouts it took about a minute and a half to create the PDF. Complex drawings will only increase that time. It's a good time to catch up on reading CADtutor. Glen Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 wouldnt be to bad, but ive got 10 floors of drawings each with 10 tabs, small power, to AC, im just doing it manually, then going to do it on the last floor and go and make a brew or 2, or 3 Quote
alanjt Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Create a pagesetup that will give you the PDF you want, then publish and select that pagesetup as an override for all of them. Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 sorted this will come in handy in the near future, as im doing work on a 18 floor hotel soon, with vent, drainage, ac, heating, domestic and more on each floor Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 you may feel like its taking forever, but think about how long it will take you to manually go through each tab and plot them individually, its faster then that because it runs from one to the next without having to wait for your input. The first few times getting the feel for getting it to work makes it a little longer but after you get the hang of it it will take a lot less time. Multiple tabs on the same file is also faster then multiple files with one tab because it doesnt have to open the file every time. I have to plot close to 200 layouts every friday, the one time i did it without publish it took me all day, the next week i did it with publish and it only took 2 hours (they are all big files) It usually takes me about a min and a half to plot one page from the point of typing p to the point when it finishes. That doesnt include opening the dwgs. As far as the individual pdfs vs 1 big pdf i know in 08 on its controlled via publishcollate variable 1 being 1 big pdf and 0 being multiple pdfs but not sure for 07 Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 Thanks for your help, but i need one more thing is there a way of loading a setup, instead of setting the page setup everytime. Ie. have a setup for A1 PDF (1:1) A0 (1:1) Quote

Ie. have a setup for A1 PDF (1:1) A0 (1:1) *how do i save my page setup, so that i can use the same one again and again* Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 After creating it save the dwg, now when your in another dwg you can import is from the original dwg, go to publish and for the drop down for pagesetup thier is the option import navigate back to the dwg that you saved it in and select import now you have that pagesetup Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Also, If you use the same pagesetup on all dwgs you can add it to your template and it will always be there, wont help you for dwgs already created but will save time on future projects Quote
Nick-H- Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 Thank-you I will have a dabble now Quote
stevsmith Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 You could set auto publish to plot to pdf as seperate files. All you do is set it up to a specified folder. select pdf plot. plot on close. Open a drawing and close it again and it will plot all the tabs to the folder you have specified. Quote
