Column & Beam Blocks

Does anyone have OR know of where i can get my grimy fingers onto a load of blocks of column and beams..?
Would really come in handy as i've got a load of steelwork drawings to do and will save me drawing them up from scratch.

If there has been something posted before regarding the above then i apologise but i haven't had time to look.. :oops:

Here's a lisp routine that works great...go to http://mgoodarch.com/Lisp%20Routine.htm and download Steel.rar. It has a dialoge box where you can choose what time of structural member that you want to use (ie. HSS, angle, W shape etc.) and it has the individual sizes in it.

does anyone have any autocad details for joining 2 steel i beams in a T section as i dont know how to join them and i need to put the detail on my drawing any help would be much appreciated

Hi,

If you could answer which country you are in? - The reason is I'm sure that different countries have different standards / codes to work to, so an answer from the UK might not be OK for the USA.

Anyway, to answer your question (from the UK) it is usual to do one of the following:
1) If both beams are the same size, then weld a plate / angle on the main beam parallel to the 2nd beam, and bolt this to the2nd (trimmed) beam.
2) If the trimmed beam is smaller and fits in the web of the main beam - weld an end plate and bolt it to the web of the main beam.

I'll have a look for some details, but I would RECOMMEND you state "the beam sizes and connections are indicative only, and need designing by an Engineer". If not and someone builds to what you have drawn you are liable.

I think there are a lot of resources available, Dimension for steel sections (UK - Corus blue book, and lots of CAD blocks) typical connection details / examples.

Hi i got steelwork blocks from ebay, they can be loaded onto a pull down menu on the toolbar so easy to find. Best add on i bought
