Is it me or am I going crazy ? It seems that if I were to 'polar array' a rectangle to a known center, it is arrayed OFF center . . . or am I doing something wrong ? Is there a work-around ?

What do you mean by arrayed OFF center? Do you mean you want the rectangle to rotate as it goes around the circle like the image below?Untitled.jpg

Resullins - thanks for the quick reply, I do not want to rotate the rectangle. Only polar array it. I have a PDF dwg attached to the original post above. . . I just cant believe autodesk people would write software like that. I can't be the only one trying to polar array an object

Yes, I see your PDF, and I looked at it. But that doesn't explain the problem. What's in the PDF IS a polar array. It will always use the start point of your geometry as the basis of the array. So in this case, I would bet that you drew the rectangle starting with the top left corner.

When you're in the array command, you'll see an option for BASE. Choose that option, then pick the location on the geometry that you want used as the base point... then it will take you back to being able to pick the center of your array.

Resullins,

Thanks, I looked alittle harder and I see I have the 'reduced information' dialogue box, clicking on the arrows, I see the 'base' reference, defined the base and was able to polar array with no rotation. Autosketch just automatically assumes the center of every object or group of objects doesnt it? Autocad LT is still the better software to use although I am missing alot of commands of the 'full blown software'. Thanks for your help. The 'help manual' needs work.

P.S. Looks like you got it sorted while I posted the images.

You need to expand the dialog box to find option for the base.

@buddy: Glad I could help you!

So... am I crazy or does 2012 NOT have a dialog box for the array command? Mine uses a command line, and I can't get the dialog box back. Is that and LT thing?

SP1 added the dialog back in, but not for Associative Arrays, just the old style. ARRAYCLASSIC is the command name as some one down south registered ClassicArray as soon as 2012 came out and didn't have it included. The funny thing is the third party one is better than autodesk's because that one creates associative arrays and autodesk's doesn't.

Oh praise Jebus! I REALLY hate that command line thing. Now I'm off to change my command shortcuts!
