i am new to this. what is the difference between autocad and lt?

Which software and books should be using?

woot, autodesk offers system requirements on IT guys? does it include 6''3', blond and handsome?

itsmeagain- just to give a bit more info you might want to sign up to a course- as a student you will have access to free Student Versions of ACAD which have full capability, so you will be able to get an idea of whether you utilise the full version features or whether LT will suffice for your needs.

What is the difference? Around a thousand dollars. LT can be purchased for about $800. (Although there is a rebate on now that gets you $300 back.) Full AutoCAD is around $2000.

Of course if you can't do what you need to do with LT then you wasted the money on LT. The FAQ's posted already should help you figure out what is in each version. If you tell us what you are looking to draft, we can point you in the right direction.

Strictly 2D - seriously consider LT.

3D - You're going to need full AutoCAD.

if you already have a student email account you can download the student version for free, but you cant use it for any work because you get a print around the outside saying it was made with the student version. If you dont have an email account yet but can create one (it has to be through your school) then you should create one and start downloading, if you have to wait til the 10th of Jan to get an email account your SOL

Whupps, my bad, I did a quick search and didn't find any prices, but thought I remebered seeing upgrade pricing in the $1500 range. In my mind, once it got over $1000 it moves to the "too expensive" category and does not matter if it is $2000 or $10,000 - I ain't buying it.

Oh well.
