    Dynamic Input issues

Hello, this is my first post. I'm a newbie to CAD, my job requires that I use our CAD records to measure out distances frequently. Most of the time, I use the Add Distances tool with no problem, but I've been having trouble with my latest project. If I go straight north/south/east/west, I will see an accurate distance measure, along with an accurate angular measure, but if I go on any direction other than the four cardinal directions, what is displayed on the small tooltip box, isn't what I get in the command line box. All I care about are the distances, I don't need any angular measures. I've tried playing around with the settings within the dynamic input tab in the drafting settings, but I can't seem to get it right. Does anyone know what I can do to get this fixed?
