Wipeout comand and PDF's

Hello!

I have a problem with Adobe (imagine that). OK, I used the wipeout comand to clear out hatch, lines and objects with out having to trim them for section/ detail cut bubles. Works great to plot, looks great on the screen in a PDF, however, if a plot has to be made from a PDF - everywhere there is a wipeout "spot" used is black.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix for it, I would much rather use this comand instead of triming and having to explode then trim blocks.

There are a multitude of reasons why this is the best way to go with clearing the background if this problem can be fixed!

I use background mask when appropriate, however, there is a couple of issues with that, however, it does work great with text.

Thanks,

Matt

I have had this exact same problem only it was while I was using background masks. Unfortunatly I never figured out what the problem was. One thing I just thought of though, I am guessing you have your CAD background set to black? Try changing it to white in options before you plot the PDF, maybe it will do the trick for you. Other than that, I dont really know what to try.

i have had the problem also... i just put the wipeout command out of my mind, couldnt fix it. try a different pdf driver to print. I have also had that issue with different kinds of images.

Plotter Driver as EMS_0525 said. I use PDF-Xchange for Acroplot. Haven't had that problem. And the blueprinter we use uses Kip products I think. And our 11x17's go on HP5100. Wipeouts never print black. Check with your driver supplier.

the wipeouts only print black when plotting from the PDF's. If plotted from AutoCAD to the plotter they are fine. When veiwing the PDF's on screen, they look fine.

Install the Postscript system plotter (Autodesk ePlot).

It can appreciate Wipeouts at the compromise of increased file size.

Or you could use textboxes with masked backgrounds instead.

Tools --> options --> plot and publish --> Add Printer

background mask doesn't work for section cut bubles - her in lies the problem, also with background mask you have to fool around with it or the box to get the area masked and box to fit. Wipeout takes care of that. I will try the ePlot, Thanks.

it's a known issue with *.pdf printers...in general i don't have this problem using acrobat pro...

a workaround is to plot to a dwf first then print that to a pdf...

I use Bluebeam to PDF my drawings. We got it because of this e=very issue. It costs about $200 or some thing but it will work on your wipeouts and it is also great for when you need to batch plot your drawings to PDF.

I use the sheet set manager to batch plot, does a wonderful job. I will try these and let you know what I find out! Thanks!

  • 5 months later...

I make a layer called "wipeout" and set the color to 255,255,255 and put all wipeouts & textmasks on this layer.

Then when you print from the PDF, the black blobs won't appear.

Thanks, we are in a period of transition with ACAD 2010 - also getting Bluebeam, hope some things have changed!

Thanks for all of your help!

I have a CAD drawing with wipeouts that I plotted to PDF via. CutePDF. The office I am in has two color printers. One prints the PDF with the wipeouts as black boxes while the other printer prints just fine.

We are testing AutoCad 2011 (higher-ups decided to skip 2010) anyway, inside of it is a PDF converter, so far it is superior to Adobe Acrobat & bluebeam (which I think is lightyears beyond Adobe). It has some features that allow greater control of the information that goes with your files. So far the issue with the wipeout command has not raised it's ugly head!

Thanks for all of your input!
