jdub Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 To All, I was wondering if anyone has a creative solution to working with x-refs in a remote location. The problem i'm having right now is have to re-link back to our servers while working at home. This would sometimes take the drawing ages to load. I've read something about relative and hard linked x-ref's i was wondering if anyone could explain a little more on that subject? Thanks, Jason Quote

Thanks, Jason If I work from home, I usually eTransmit the drawings and email them to my home email. Any changes made to the host file I overwrite when I get back to the office. The reason this is the best way IMHO is because if you want the best performance you need to be either dealing with local XREF's or directly on a network. Anything past that then of course there will be performance issues. Kinda a workaround but I seem to do okay with it. Are you using a VPN or something? Quote
jdub Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Well we have a vpn at work but i've been trying to access it through local area network. Just as if i was at work connected to a local drive because working through the vpn would be beyond slow. But what you described is almost exactly what i do now. I just draw up the stuff and relink my xref's and b.o.m's at work. Just wondering if there was a solution around that. Quote
tzframpton Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Na not really. The only "good solution" would be a very good internet connection, but even then I think there are issues with loading/reloading XREF's and using networked tools, etc. There's even issues on local networks with XREF's as is with performance and connection problems. Just keep doing what 'yer doing. Quote
Cad64 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I do the same. I Etransmit my files and save them to my flash drive. I don't even bother with the VPN unless I get home and realize I forgot a file that I absolutely need, because transferring files back and forth is painfully slow. I would never try to work on a file with xrefs stored on the server. It would take ages to get a drawing completed that way. Quote
