twobig4u01 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Useing Auto Cadd 2008, going through some drawings and seeing .dwl and .dwl2 files. What are they? and do I need them? can I delete them? Quote
lpseifert Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 .dwl is a drawing lock file, it should be automatically deleted when the dwg is closed. Quote

If the dwg that the dwl file is associated with is open, you won't be able to delete it. I wonder why they aren't being deleted... Quote

tzframpton Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 There was an error. Just delete them, they stick around all the time when I have an error and AutoCAD closes. Quote
Ryder76 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 What Styk said and sometimes the .dwg file will only open as read only if a .dwl file is inadvertently hanging around. I've run into that a few times where I have had to hunt down the dwl and delete it. Quote
ReMark Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Submitted by "Casey" at the AutoDesk Discussion Groups in response to a similar question re: DWL file. "It's a drawing lock file created by AutoCad / AutoCadLT that prevents two people from opening and modifying the drawing at the same time." Quote
