Anyone have any ideas for me. Its odd that it will be visible in 3d orbit since thats when the object taxes the Vcard the most but will disappear on me after the orbit.

A graphics related problem or is it the new software? Did you get the new computer and Arch 2010 at the same time?

Both new installs. it's odd, seems like it might not clear it it memory or something.

I use shift+hold the mouse button. Thanks for looking that up, I will check that out.

Remark, That is close to the problem but not exactly. I draw completely in 3d for residential designs, when switching from wireframe to concep or realistic my model will disappear, but soon as I use the 3d orbit shortcut it will appear. The when I let off it is gone again. thanks for your time.

Seems to me I recall seeing this behavior on a users machine before. I think it was related to graphics card/driver problem. As I recall I didn't try to solve the graphics problem but changing the AutoCAD background color sort of solved the problem.

Hmm- I will have to check that. It's odd I have been using autocad for 12 years and never ran into a problem like this. This is my first venture in to 64 bit and im not seeing too many advantages except amount of crashes. Hopefully autodesk will truely redesign their software for 64 bit systems.

Hardware and software both new. Then I would lean towards a graphics problem of some sort. Have you done any hardware and performance tuning via the 3Dconfig command?

Note re: your hardware setup. Seems pretty robust to me. I'd kill for a system with those specs.

I did update it, says my graphics card can do everything. I turned off most options trying to make it less taxing. Are there any of the options that might hurt the preformance either way. I made sure to turn off all shadowing and lighting.

Your graphics card is marketed for gamers isn't it?

Do you have the latest version of DirectX?

What is the wattage on your power supply?

Yes, its one of the new xfx radeon 4870 hd gddr5 1gb. Autodesk recognizes it but did not certify it.

I will have to check my direct x, thought I had version 10.

my ps is 750w.

thanks for you time and help.

I overclocked my Vcard and that seemed to do the trick.

thanks for the help.

Overclocking your video card solved your problem? Really?

That's certainly not a fix I would normally think of or recommend in most cases. What even made you consider it?

Glad to hear you solved your problem and thank you for sharing your unique solution with us.

I was reading a review of the card and a guy said that the new Catalyst that came out gave stability to over clocking and unleashing it true potential. I download the new software and discovered that the card was running about an 1/5th of what it can handle stably. I worked on that and increased the fan to 40% tripled the speed of the card and its running at 40C.

I'm new to over clocking and just discovered that if I add a new CPU fan I can run my CPU at 4.2gz at a safe temp.

It's amazing what different forums can teach us.

I'll be around, working with Autodesk products at least 6 days a week, I'm sure that I'll run into many more problems. I might even be able to share some of the fixes i have learnd over the years.

We appreciate the information. Thanks.

Just be aware that overclocking shortens the life of your computer. It will run faster and hotter and burn out sooner. If you're ok with that, then overclock away.

thats why im upgrading the cpu fan, i have slightly overclocked the cpu, now but will not until i have the proper cooling. I need to atleast get 4 years out of them. Everything I read if you get rid of the stock cpu fan, you will not run in to any problems. I don't plan to tax the system just give it alittle extra muscle.

A more robust CPU fan and even the addition of another one or two case fans will prolong the life of your system. Or you could go all out and add water cooling. You can even "take the plunge" and immerse the whole thing in mineral oil. Then you can overclock to the max!
