creating a new viewport

I just finished a drawing and now I would like to create a separate window on the same drawing to focus in on a specific item. I cannot find the command in the book or on the help menu. I am pretty sure the circle needs to be a "poly" but besides that I'm stumped:?

is it a circle viewport you are after?

or you could go to TOOLS-TOOLBARS-AUTOCAD-VIEWPORTS, then you would have the command on your toolbar :)

Yes it is. I want to draw a small circle around the object and then draw two lines to a larger circle with the object zoomed in.

Any closed shape can become a viewport. Draw out a circle, then type MVIEW and choose the "Object" option. Then just select the circle and it will become a viewport. Or you can use the "Convert Object to Viewport" button on the Viewports toolbar.

this may help...

Thanks for the .dwg but I want to be able to do it myself for later without having to carry around your drawing. I have the viewport toolbar but still am not sure how to work it

I created a circle, typed "mview" and chose "object" option but it won't let me select the circle or the polygon I created. Am I skipping a step...

I can't understand why it's not working either. I have attached a copy of the drawing I am working on. the scenario I am trying to create is in the blue rec on the bottom left.

I went to attach it, turned my head to answer the phone and thought it attached. Let me try it again. Okay, it wouldn't work the first time, the file was too large. Here it is again with just the single object I want to accomlish

You're not trying to do this in model space are you?

I switched to one of your layouts, created a circle and used the procedure I described previously and it works fine. You just need to double click inside the circle and do a Zoom Extents.

Oh, and make sure you're in paper space when you do this. I found that your title block border is a viewport and it was active. I deactivated it in order to create the viewport.
