Mark1965 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi all I have a problem with my legends, i have made up some legends and added a small image for each icon thats represented in the dwg(15 in all), now this works fine as an ole but the legend becomes 9 meg in size which is too big. Now if i do it as a raster image and save as a block when i insert them into a dwg the images dissapear, i need to be able to have the legend as a block to insert into the dwg, also i cannot bind the images to the dwg. Any suggestions:? Can the filesize be reduced somehow with ole? Thanx Mark Ps im using cad 2007 Quote
chulse Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 What is your OLEQUALITY set to? Could the small images be inserted as OLE first, then imageattach the legend? Quote
Mark1965 Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Hi Not to sure what that is, but i was trying to be a bit more efficient by making all the legends i need then inserting them and just changing quantity as required. I have put 1 on as an example but there would be any where from 5-20 of these in a legend. Image is mising cause its a raster but can the ole images be reduced in filesize. I hope you understand what im trying to say lol. Thanx Mark Example.dwg Quote
chulse Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 From help: OLEQUALITY Type:Integer Saved in:Registry Initial value:3 Sets the default plot quality for OLE objects. When OLEQUALITY is set to 3, the quality level is assigned automatically based on the type of object. For example, spreadsheets and tables are set to 0, color text and pie charts are set to 1, and photographs are set to 2. 0 Monochrome 1 Low graphics 2 High graphics 3 Automatically Select Try setting it to 0 and then insert the OLEs... chulse Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Alternatively, could you reduce the raster size first with photoshop or something? Quote
Cad64 Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Why are you creating these legends externally and then inserting them as images? Why don't you just create them in Autocad with lines and text? You could then insert them as blocks or xref's. Inserting 20 image files is going to cause problems with regeneration when zooming and panning. Quote

If I understand correctly, the OP is creating his legend as a block, but it includes an image of each item (I assume an actual photo). When he inserts the block, he wants the images to remain bound to it. As far as I know, OLE is the only way to do that. Quote
Mark1965 Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 Hi Thanx for your replys and suggestions, i understand what you are saying, and i will just keep my legend blocks without the image and insert a raster when i use them from now on. I thought it would save me time as somebody on here says "work smart not hard":D, this is what i like about cad, there is always somthing to learn. Thanks again Mark Quote
