james120479 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm setting up a scene using the standard Mental Ray daylight system and the Daylight render preset - I don't need it to be highly photorealistic / detailed but on the standard settings the renders are appearing washed out or grey. There doesn't seem to be much contrast in the image. I know there are many settings such as exposure and rgb tint but these don't seem to help, does anyone know any tricks that will make the lighting more vibrant? The shadows act as though it is a sunny day but the actual scene looks very grey. Any help appreciated Quote
Cad64 Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 As you already found out, you can't just use the Standard settings, you need to tweak them to fit your scene. There are too many variables for me to try and give you a definitive answer here in the forum. I would suggest picking up Rendering with Mental Ray & 3DS Max. I have the first edition, but I see they now also have a second edition. This book has helped me tremendously, and there's about 12 pages devoted to the Daylight System. Quote
james120479 Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Cheers for that, i'll check the book out... seems perfect. I've found soome of the settings but don't really know which ones i should be concentrating on. I'll have a look for that book Quote
