cadmikee Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I'm new to 3D but manages to create a 3D wire frame image of a simple house. Now for me to be able to shade it etc I've be using the edgesurf command, selecting 4 edges and thats it. The problem I have is if I have a triangular roof section or an area with more than 4 edges I can't edgesurf it as you need 4 edges. Do I have to divide the shape up into sections of 4? Also, when I'm tring to select a line that forms part of an adjacent face that I've already 'revsurfed' sometimes I can't and sometimes I can. Am I doing something wrong and is this the best way to create very basic 3D images? I haven't even thought about putting in windows and doors yet!! Many Thanks Mike Quote
Wavada Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I would use polysolids to draw the walls. Draw windows as a rectangle in the correct ucs. Extrude the windows through the walls, and subtract the windows from the polysolid walls. Roof can be done in several ways. Is it a gabled or hip roof? Quote
Cad64 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Your profile says you are using 2006 LT, so how are you doing 3D work? If you're using the full version, 2007 or later, check out the videos at Cadclips.com and learn about solid modeling. Quote
cadmikee Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 I have access to AutoCAD 2008. Its a gabled roof with a vally where one roof meets another but I know I will need to draw all types at some point. I'll have a look at the online tutors. Thanks for all the advice Mike Quote
cadmikee Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 I've watched some of the tutorial but for what I'm after, I think it would be easier to create a 3d line drawing as below. (for some reason the image is big and the wrong way, but you get the idea) What is the bast way to "fill in the surfaces"? Thanks Quote
