just finished a dwg which should be scaled at 1:100, sent a copy via pdf and was told the scale is slightly big, on looking at vp properties the annotation is 1:100 but there is a value of 0.0143 in the custom scale box changing the custom scale to 1:100 rescales the dwg but the text in paper space is out of place. just noticed that the vp can be scaled from the task bar and that the custom scale is the same value as vp scale so now i am more confused.

so to have a scale of 1:100 i now obviously set the vp scale to 1:100 but what about annotation scale. will i have to do the text in paper space from scratch again?

any help appreachiated as i need to get the drawing finished asap.

im not entirely sure but i think you might have to. i once learned this lesson and what i do is to do the text in model space. that way if the scale or anything in the drawing changes then its easy to move with it. i suppose paper space text has its pro's and con's too

thanks steve, in the end i bit the bullet and re done all the text, still couldn't set the annotation to 1:1, had to leave it at 1:100 which made it interesting doing the text. final result looks ok so i've sent it to print.

If you have all the text in Paper Space, the Annotation Scale shouldn't factor in. Annotation Scale affects the scale on the text-objects in Model Space.

My guess is that the text moved in Paper Space because if you have the snapped (OSnap) to objects through the Viewport, the text will move along with it when you change scale.

Way around it is like StevenMac said, do all texting in Model Space, then make sure that you have Annotation Scale set to the same as the viewport scale.

Or set the scale on the viewport first, and then do the texting in Paper space.

i ended up doing the text in model space with the vp and annotation scale set to 1:100. the drawing looked fine when plotted so i left it at that.

i am still a bit green when it comes to cad, today i wanted to bind an xref but have all layers coloured black, i started off by changing all the layers individually to black before i binded it. only after binding it i realized the xref was now a block so i could have edited the block and change the colour that way saving about 20 mins.

You learned something new so the day was not a total waste, right?
