This is further to a previous thread!!!!

Autocad will not recognise the link to my drawing file in My Documents. When Open File is selected Autocad crashes.

Originally I thought this was related to Norton, but nothing else is affected.I now find if I attempt Save As ,it crashes.I can open individual files though My Documents, which then opens Autocad and can do Save As by manipulating files in My Documents,so there is a link in one direction. How can I re-establish the link from Autocad to My Documents????? Frustated!

Find the drawing file on your hard drive. Right-click on it and select Properties. Where it says Location: what does it say? While you are there what does it say opposite Opens with:?

Is My Documents\My Drawings included in AutoCAD's file search paths under Tools > Options > Files?

Is My Documents\My Drawings included in AutoCAD's file search paths under Tools > Options > Files?

Which of the file headings in Options do I look?

Have tentatively experimented in this area previously.

I have my drawing folder listed under Support File Search Path.

I'm assuming this wasn't a problem in the past, right? What changed recently?

Hello Mark

We may be making progress!!Under Support File Search Path I have as follows:-

C:\Documents and Settings\mick\Application\Autodesk\Autocad2006\R16.2\enu\support--------?Plus a number of C:\Program files\Autocad2006\text -fonts help etc.

Do I alter this?????

Posted

Does this line appear there as well?

C:\Documents and settings\mick\My Documents\My Drawings

If not, try adding it. Do NOT edit or delete any of the other entries!

In a previous post the OP states the program opening the file is an AutoCAD application. I don't know if this actually what it says verbatim. I would expect to see acad.exe specifically called out. Maybe it is.

Hello Mark

Added as indicated---message read path not recognised--answer yes or no----went for yes---tried Open and it crashed?????

Could it be that you have a corrupted drawing?

Under Properties (in a previous post) you answered AutoCAD application. Does it specifically say acad.exe?

Don't think so -----I've tried a number of my drawings by selecting and opening Autocad from My Documents---all successfully, but when trying Open file from Autocad ,they always crash.

No it reads---Autocad Application

Well you could try resetting that to acad.exe but in the meantime do you get any error messages when AutoCAD crashes? Something along the lines of insufficient memory?

Posted

The only message is "not responding"

Will try to alter as suggested.

Autocad application will not reset----it applies to each individual drawing ,not the folder.

I have no problems opening from the folder, anyway.
