Arial Font Symbols & PDF

Recommended Posts

I'm using ACAD LT 2010. I use the basic Arial font for all text and the mtext command to insert text. On occasion I use some of the standard symbols such as the degree symbol (%%d) and +/- symbol (%%p) among others. When I plot to the printer everything prints fine, but when I plot to PDF using the standard DWG to PDF plotter setup that comes with LT2010 the symbols and usually the entire line that the symbol is on either doesn't plot or it plots a series of boxes for each character in that line. I experimented with a couple of other different fonts and the same symbols. Some plotted to PDF correctly others did as stated above.

Is there any fix for this or am I doing something wrong?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try a different PDF print driver, such as CutePDF. The default AutoCAD PDF print driver has always had problems. I have never had a problem using CutePDF Writer, and its free. Be sure to get both the download files.

When I was using 2004 and 2009 I had to use CutePDF and others to print to PDF. It seems 2010 has come a long way with printing and inserting PDFs as an underlay with this one exception. I was hoping I was just doing something wrong.

I had this problem myself.

1) Open the AutoCAD start button/menu bar (top left)

2) Print -> Manage Printers

3) Double Click on DWG to PDF.pc3

4) Device and Document Settings tab

5) Custom Properties from the tree view, then Custom Properties buttom below

6) Font Handling -> Capture all.

Hope this helps!

Works for me, everytime. Not any problems with fonts whatsoever.

That's awesome! That worked perfectly. I was hoping I just needed to flick a switch to fix it.

Thank you very much.
