Hi!

I just recently found this great community which has useful resources. I've come across a problem - being an ac newbie - so here it goes. I have a 3D dxf file containing stairs which was made in stair-only software. The thing is I would like to change the shape of the stringboard. I exploded the model and edited the contour of the stringboard. When I changed the UCS / viewpoint of course there was no "thickness" at the spot where I made changes. I guess I should now use extrude command? The matter of fact is I don't know if that is the "right" way to edit 3d surface. Any tips or help would be highly appreciated. That being my first post I can't attach any files just yet.

Thanks,

Luke

Actually you can attach files, you just can't post links to external file hosting sites. See HERE.

Upsy Daisy :) thanks for that. Well .. there is a 250 kB limit so I'll post a few printscreens for starters. Thanks in advance for your reply.

We need a little more info on exactly what changes you made and where? Also what was the original object a surface or solid.

That actually is the original model. What I would like to do is to change the shape of the first rightsided stringboard. Do I have to edit blocks, or is there another way to do it? thanks.

It can be a bit tricky,

If you are lucky and the original model is not been joined together by "Union" then you get draw new part as you like and replace with existing. Otherwise you have to use slice and it is going to be messy

Sorry for the late reply. The export from the initial software didn't have a grouped solids i.e. I can select various components of the staircase. What I was hoping for is the method to edit these "separate" objects and not drawing them from the scratch. Thanks.

If you have created a surface with the changes you want. Use "Thicken" to add mass to the surface. This will automatically create a 3dsolid, that will be easier to work with.
