base point of paste object

When I copy and then paste a item the base point is way off in outer space. How did the base point get moved so far off? How do I reset it?

Unless I'm using 0,0 as my baspoint on purpose I always pick an intersection somewhere on the object I want to copy and paste. I never run into any problems doing it this way.

That does work but you can also just select the item right click select copy enter. then right click, paste and then click where you want the item to go. But when I do this right now the item is not with the mouse pointer arrow. it is off in space.

that is what ReMark said. If you don't select a base point, 0,0 is taken to be the object's base point - which leaves your objects way off in space. I ALWAYS use "copy with base point" and select a base point within the visible objects.

Thank you Dave. That makes sense. I also discovered that if you select object, right click copy, then esc. and then right click paste the object is there with your mouse. If you dont escape then the object is what you said 0,0.

make sure your ucs is set to world in your dwg. as for the base point I find when I copy items the base point is the lowest left point of the items selected unless you actually copy with a basepoint

Try insbase command to the object to be copied, you may reset the insert base point instead of the default setting as 0,0.
