Laurel Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Hi As part of a current project, I need to create several custom material styles in Inventor. I'm struggling to find resources that show the properties Inventor needs (in the Style and Standards Editor). Does anyone know of a resource where I can obtain the properties for various materials? I did find 'matweb.com' but this doesn't really help for many of the properties needed. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 what type of materials are we talking about here? So you are looking for reflective/opacity/diffuse settings? Quote
Laurel Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Those would be useful Matt, but I'm more concerned with the material properties - poisson's ratio, thermal conductivity, linear expansion and so on. I want to start by adding 'European Beech' as a material, but there will be others. Quote
MarkFlayler Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Matweb.com is a great site for this. But Inventor only needs density for mass calculation everything else is only if you need to run a dynamic sim or strees study on your part. If you only need it for modeling and weight, forget everything else except density and color. Quote

shift1313 Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 sorry paul i misunderstood the question. I thought you were worried about visual appearance. Quote
MarkFlayler Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 While we are at it for visual styles, check out this blog post to learn how to orient texture along a plane for visual accuracy. http://rand.com/imaginit/1/rss/viewitem.asp?feedid=BLOGS_MFG_ALL&guid=573 Quote
Laurel Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Mark - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=european+beech+material+properties Gee Mark, wish I'd thought of that! I found that my searches didn't produce the properties Inventor asks for. As you will see from my first post, I did find matweb, and it is very good, but I find it lacks many of the properties Inventor needs. Matt - sorry paul i misunderstood the question. I thought you were worried about visual appearance. Thats quite ok Matt, think nothing of it. Thank you both for your help. I just wondered if there was some resource online (or otherwise) that supplied this info in an Inventor friendly format. Guess I'll just have to wing it. Quote
Laurel Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 The second I posted the previous reply, I decided to take another look at Mark's google link. The second entry looks promising: http://www.matbase.com/material/wood/class5-5-years/european-beech/properties That's not a site that showed up on my search. Quote
