fixing pivot points

hey guys

 

i was wondering if Auto Cad could do the following. FYI i am using 2008

 

for example could you create a pair of scissors that you could open and close?

 

so the one part of the scissors stays flat and then the other part could be "animated" to open and close but stay on the pivot point?

 

i am trying to draft a scissor lift and to make sure i have all the parts in the right length it would be great if i could make the pivot points be fixed so i can move it up and down.

 

or is this for mechanical CAD? or is there a script that would let me do this in 2008?

you could rotate with reference. Select the scissor part that you want to move. select your pivot point, type r enter, select your pivot point again and a point on the other end (pointy part of scissors) and move your mouse up/down to see how it would move

that would work for a pair of Scissor. but what if i wanted to have multiple points like on a Scissor lift, like used in construction?

Not sure its possible with autocad maybe someone else has an idea

3d Studio Max would be a better choice for that since it has the functional tools for this type of a setup.

Autocad 2010 now has parameters and constraints, using that you could do what you're trying to achieve.
