DHudson Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hello- We have set our lumber clients wood moulding CAD files using AutoCad LT 2006 on a web site to be viewed and downloaded with iPaper (page flipping software). I wanted to upload the link here... but new forum user so I can't give you a link. So.. anyone willing to give me their email- I would love to send you the web link. The client gets error messages and is not able to open the CAD files. Not sure if it is the CAD files or the iPaper program. Meanwhile - anyone use iPaper with CAD files? Thank you so much! Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Your client can view your drawing files using AutoDesk's (free for the download) program DWG TrueView. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=6703438 Quote
DHudson Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Hi- the people trying to download the files are Architects and people who would already have AutoCad. There is something going amiss with either the delivery system of the CAD files or the CAD files themselves. Thank you so much for any help you can offer DHudson Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Ahhhh.....bits and pieces of the full story come to light. I see. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I see you fell for the "regardless of the file type" ad pitch that iPaper boasts. Well guess what? Funny, but I don't see DWG, DWF or DXF listed here: http://www.scribd.com/ipaper Did you confirm that iPaper could display the types of files you are sending prior to whisking them off to your client? DHudson Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 I will ask the people that are putting my CAD files in iPaper that question. I myself could retrieve the CAD files, and open them. But then again - I made them. One architect got the error message: Windows cannot find 'C:/Documents and Settings\((An Architects Name here)).SCIP\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IES\BNDUR3FO\WM217.dxf'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. I would love to give you the web address so you could try it out - let me know if you would like that. Thank you so much for any help. Quote
ReMark Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 The only way your CAD files are going to get put into iPaper is if you provided them in PDF format. Also, their use of iPaper seems like an odd choice if you ask me. What types of drawings are these? Here's a description of iPaper I lifted from iPaperUSA's website: "iPaper is cutting-edge catalog and magazine software that converts your static, rigid PDF files into an interactive sales tool that looks and reads like a real paper catalog or magazine." Does this sound like the kind of software one would normally use to view AutoCAD dwg files? Quote
DHudson Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? If I could have just placed the URL to the lumber company's web site here, You would know that iPaper is not being used to view the CAD files. iPaper is being used to display the wood moulding catalog. Throughout the pages you would see the various wood mouldings and next to each moulding is a clickable icon for a DWG, DXF, and a PDF. Clicking on the icon allows you to download the DWG, DXF, or PDF. This is where I came in initially asking for help ... because some architects are receiving error messages and I am not sure if it is from the CAD files, the iPaper application, or both. Quote
ReMark Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 The architect's computer is expecting to find the downloaded DXF file in a particular location and doesn't find it there. Maybe his Temporary Internet file folder needs cleaning out. Quote
