Hi; Can I use my Acad2008 license for Acad Mechanical 2008? I wish to download Acad Mechanical 2008 and am thinking if my old license for Acad 2008 will work for it...Can it work for it? Thanks! voltron

The answer is no. A software license is only good for the program it is registered to. If you want Mechanical then you need to purchase the program.

Hi Cad64;

Thank you very much. I tried it out it didn't as you said it was.

Well anyway, guess I have to stick with Acad 2008. Are there any plug-ins that may be added so Acad 2008 can be as Acad Mech?

Kind regards,

If you upgrade to Mech you will still have use of Vanilla if that's what's stopping you?

Styk has a good point, there are 3 (I believe) mechanical based ACAD packages- Mechanical, MEP and MDT. If you are to upgrade make sure you have the right version for the purpose.

Hi guys;

I am self-studying as of now but I took Mechanical Engineering in College. I plan to do practice on mechanical assembly workshop drawings for plastic encapsulation molding/tooling/trimming/debar dejunk process' which are related to semiconductor electronics manufacturing.

I do wanna learn more from you guys that's why I joined here in CadTutor. I use Acad 2008 but I here that Acad Mechanical has more simplified routines tailored for Mechanical drawings. I do wanna learn more of it.

Any help will be really appreciated. Not yet upgrading but I am considering it.

Thanks!

Inventor and/or Solidworks might actually be a much better choice for the trade you're going into.

Hi; I am also thinking about it but am not yet going for the leap. I just am a beginner and I might not be able to grasp the change that fast. I do not have formal education on CAD you see...but as mentioned I am thinking about it. Maybe you can guide me towards a link for tutorials for Solidworks.. Kind regards, voltron

It largely depends on what you want- I was assuming 2D which is why I'd not suggested Inventor- we also use Inventor here but it's a very slow process currently deciding whether 3D is the best solution for our application- we're currently looking at it more for clash detection purposes.

I get the feeling I might have opened a can of worms here... :o
