divensje Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I am trying to model a machine utilizing a rope. I used a 3D polyline as a path, but then realized you cannot add thickness to a 3D polyline like you can to a 2D one. What is the best way to model this rope so that is renders? Thank You! Quote
ReMark Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Well the profile of a rope is circular so wouldn't it be best to sweep or extrude a circle along this path? Quote
divensje Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Well the profile of a rope is circular so wouldn't be best to sweep or extrude a circle along this path? The problem is, I cannot sweep along a 3D polyline. If I decurve the line and do each segment separately this should work but that is very undesirable and would create a jagged, bad looking rope. ReMark Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 We must be using vastly different programs then. I just did a sweep, of a circle, along a straight 3Dpolyline and a multi-vertex 3Dpolyline that I applied a spline curve to. I'm using AutoCAD 2009. Quote
