Dynamic Interior Door Block (feedback, please)

If you all wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate some feedback on this dynamic door block that I've made. I've been working on it for the past hour trying to get it all to work right, and I think I've got it. I just need someone else to check it to make sure it works as expected. Just be aware that most of the grips have been turned off due to some of them moving in funky ways (the only grip other than the base point should be the rotation grip).

Is the rotation feature intended for the door to open & close or was it intended for rotating the door to represent a right hand or left hand swing?

I ask because I notice the door jamb on the knob side moves with the door while rotating.

The rotation grip is to align the door to whatever angle the wall is at (i.e. 45 degree walls). The opening angle is set by a visibility parameter that can be accessed in the properties window. Also, the swing direction (left or right hand) and he travel direction (inswing and outswing) can all be changed in he properties window.

Please don't take this the wrong way but wouldn't it have been easier to just use the rotate command to accommodate the door for a 45 degree or any angled wall & just use the rotation dynamic for the door to open & close & the Flip dynamic for inswing/outswing Left/Right swing?

It would work, but there are a few more steps involved with the typical rotate command, whereas using a rotate parameter you just click the grip and set it to whatever angle or point you're trying to align to. I figured that this would be a more efficient way of doing it since it didn't involve as many steps.

 

As far as the door opening angle, I couldn't get the hidden line to scale in two directions if I just used a rotate parameter. The easiest way to get the hidden line to show up was to use a visibility parameter. Also, I couldn't find a way to reliably change the width of the door and have it retain the proper look if I used the rotate parameter AND both flips with a stretch.

 

By the way, I've got some pretty thick skin so you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings.

I picked up your door handles. This little job was just showin' a door.

 

I'm workin' on a little project in PA. Not the big jobs like I did for Jenny-O, SnapOn Tools, and Janesville (all in WI)!

I'm no where near as educated in AC as you & others here & I am very appreciative of the knowledge & skill you & others voluntarily share in this forum.

So I tend to get a bit nervous when I question a person of your skill & I worry if my questioning might be mistaken as offensive.

In the early 70's I was a detailer for Howmet Corp., Mesa, AZ

(hollow metal doors).

 

Left hand doors, right hand doors, borrowed lights, transoms, jams.

 

Today, I couldn't tell the difference 'tween a reverse left hand or right hand. :lol:
