Translating a drawing

got a load of French drawings, what's the best way to go about translating all the info into English?

unfortunately I think Mark is probably right. When we have to get translations done we sub it out. Automatic translators are (were) dreadful for technical terms. Run a bit of text through babel fish twice to see what can happen to text. You really need a fluent French speaker who understands the drawing terms.

 

We had a series of drawings that needed translating into Russian but luckilly we had a Russian in the company. We trained him in AutoCAD and he translated the drawings for us.

 

After he left we had a Russian draughtsman join us who couldn't understand that set of drawings!

Maybe you can contact a local college and see if one of their French speaking students would like a translating job on an "as needed" basis until such time the project has been completed.

I was thinking perhaps there was a way of making my drawing into a html page, then running it through google translator, printing it to A3 and stapling to the original, but is there a way of making my dwg into html, without it becoming a flat image?

I still wouldn't use an online translator. Following my own advice I babel fished one of the above paragrahs twice and got this....

Run a piece of text by the babelfish twice to see what can arrive at the text. You need really d' a flowing French speaker who includes/understands the limits of diagram.

Do you know tho, it works slightly might be ok. The engineers'll just have to use thier heads or learn a new language. hehe

You could use some of the lips programs that search for text and write your own dictionary word list but this would only replace actuall text not the the grammar side of things.

 

If the drawings are not to technical then it could be a way to go.

What line of work are you in Skeeps?

 

I remember having to translate drawings from french and from italian at some point - but electrical drawings, plus half an idea of what the plant was producing, and short labels, made the job much easier than eg architectural ones might have been!
