Hello

I am aware of how one goes about setting the text/dimension scale common to a drawing.

My question is as follows:

The drawing related to this question concerns a general arrangement at a scale of 100:1, that also includes some enlarged details of 1:25 and 1:5 scales.

How do I dimension the larger scale details individually without interfering with the dimension settings of the other scaled details?

SET UP ANNOTATIVE SCALES SO YOU CAN ASSIGN THE ONES YOU WANT IN YOUR LAYOUT WITH THE DIFFERENT VPORT SCALES TO APPEAR THE SAME TEXT SIZE LIKE 1/8" OR 1/4"

Wilbri: Where do you normally do you dimensioning? In model space or in your layout?

Hi ReMark

In model space where I always work.

What is my layout, paper space?

I have yet to learn what paper space is all about.

With regard to todouble22's reply I thank, but what if I am using one of the older AutoCad programs before innovative scale.

I refer to my draughtsman doing just what I have suggested using AutoCad 2005? LT

are you running '08? Firstly, I'd look into some tutorials on layouts check this out: http://www.cadtutor.net/faq/questions/17/Do+I+dimension+in+Model+Space+or+Paper+Space%3F

I am running 2008.

Thanks for the FAQ reference, very interesting, but I will need to study it further in order to comprehend.

Does paper space represent the appearance of the drawing on paper i.e. printed size?

Paper space, now more commonly referred to a Layout, is where we are expected to place our title block, border and notes. One or more viewports are typically created to allow the user to see the objects drawn back in model space. Each viewport can have a different scale assigned to it. Yet, when it comes time to print/plot since it is done from our layout the scale is 1:1 as opposed to 1/4"=1' or 1"=40', etc.

I undertstand you use 2008 but you have another person who uses 2005 LT so while annotative scaling would work for you should the drawing be shared then things will appear markedly different for the 2005 LT user.

In your situation I think it might be to your benefit to dimension in your layout and NOT in model space (may dimesnioning associative too). There would be no problem sharing the drawing with the 2005 LT user. I'd also put ALL text in the layout as well.

Hi ReMark

Thank you for your input.

As explained in my previous reply concerning "Nesting", I have been occupied over the weekend and have not found time to study your reply.

Will revert in due course.

Regards
