huygen Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Hello, Can someone please tell me how to scale a random length of a line to, say, 10 unit? I can do scale using scale command but I am not sure on the unit as when I drag it to right and left, the object is getting bigger or smaller. Thanks in advance Huygen Quote
Cad64 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Use the "Reference" option of the scale command. See here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=3369242 Quote
BearDyugin Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 In such cases I use command Align, with the answer Yes on a question to scale Quote
bmctest Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 @Huygen Can you elaborate on your question, because it's a bit vague? Quote
huygen Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Sorry for the confusing question. How to scale down/shortened the 17 units line to 10 units line by reference line/object rather than scale factor? In below image, the 10 units line is the reference line: Quote
eldon Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Do you have to use SCALE? If you could reorganise the thinking, then LENGTHEN with the Total option might give the same effect. Quote
bmctest Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 @huygen You could use the 'div' command to divide a specific line into segments. However, the segment lengths would ONLY be specific to the given line that was divided. ...I'm not sure where you're headed with this, so I don't know if this helps. ...All the best. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 eldon's reply will be your best choice if your using this just for a line. When using the Lengthen command there are options you can choose from while executing it. Dynamic is one (which is not what you need here) and Delta is another which is what you would use for this scenario. For your delta input you would simply type in -7 and it would shorten your line by 7 units. Quote
Eatonpcat Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 If you know the length of the original line... Why not just scale by 10/17, Or Eldons method is also good. Or even simply just draw a new line that is 10 units long I think sometimes we make cad more difficult than it has to be). Quote

It is sometimes difficult to see the simplest things once we have been ("jaded" if you will) by the more complex methods of doing things. It is always a good thing to go back to the basics and continually refresh or minds with them in order to keep our minds from becoming stagnant. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 In the command line type SCALE pick the line and Right Click Pick the one endpoint of the line type in RE Pick one endpoint of the line and then the other Type in 10 Quote
CadGuy74 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I would use lengthen for that but the reference option of the scale command would be equally good too. Quote
