Civil 3D General Capability

All,

I am new to AutoCad and Civil 3D. I have used plain autocad in the past.

I have been exploring the capability of Civil 3D for a new project I have. I am not in the Civil field, but I need to be able to modify existing ground geometry. Basically create a path/road through exisiting surface. Simply stated, all that I need is the new file with the existing modified surface. I dont need detailed drawings/figures, just a plain old DXF file with the modified geometry.

I have been working my way through the tutorials. Points, Surfaces, Alignments, Corridors, Profiles, etc. Essentially, these are the the things I am looking to do. However, I am still not sure if I can do what I need to do.

Will civil 3D be able to produce just the modified DXF geometry? I hope this questions is not too ridiculous/confusing...just trying to make sure I am not wasting my time if it cant do what I need it to do.

Thanks for the help.

to answer your question without querying why you just want a dxf file.

it is possible to explode civil 3d objects so that they are just autocad objects such as polylines 3d polylines etc. From there you can save to a dxf file

But it would still be worth knowing what is the final end result you want and then maybe it would be possible to help you more efficiently
