Profile gets over-written

In my company we use AutoCAD Full 2010 and the designers use Civil 3D 2010. Sometimes (but not always) when we open or xref in a dwg created by Civil 3D, then all the AutoCAD profile settings change. Is there a reason for this and how do we stop it from happening? Reloading the saved profile each time gets tedious.
