Autocad Map 2005 had a great feature called "select similar" on the right click drop-down menu. I used it a lot to select text fields, map artefacts etc, that were spread out across the map. Now, after upgrading to Map 2008 I have to manually select each and everyone. A bit boring if I need to remove 50 identical artifacts, to say the least.

Is there any way to revive this great little command?

Tor- as this is a Map specific command, I would suggest you post here.

If a Mod comes by they might move it for you. :)

EDIT: Mods, please ignore my suggestion as it seems it's incorrect!

Hi,

I use Map 06. There is a function I use all the time called "quick select". This may be different from what your talking about. I hope quick select hasn't gone.

If it's still there, and is different from "select similar", it could help you with what your doing.

It's located at the top of the properties bar. Icon in 06 looks like a little funnel, and popup menu is pretty self explainatry. It basically lets you select features within the drawing. You can choose text by context, style, colour etc.. or blocks by name, layer etc.. etc.. and so on. Pretty sure you can amend what functions came up in the right click pop up, but don't know how off hand.

Let me know if it's gone in 09.

Also "quick select" is not a map specific tool.

I dont have a standalone version of Map 2008, but I use Land Companion enabled Map 2008.

It also is lacking the select similar command, but besides the lisp routines that are posted, I have found another method.

Under Express>selection tools>get selection set

This allows you to pick the layer that the objects you want to pick are on, and then the type of object. it builds a selection set.

Then you can run erase, or move, or whatever, and just type P for the previous selection set.

it's an extra step from select similar, but it works. I believe it will only select object types, meaning it will pick ALL blocks, not just particular named block....
