aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hoping somebody may be able to shed some light on the problem I have been having! The situation is this, I am using AutoCAD 2006 and dimensioning in paper space. The value of measurement is appearing as was drawn in model space. My problem is that the text height and arrow size is way out of whack. When I try to modify the text height and arrow size in the dim style modify menu I can only select a height of 1/4", if I try set something smaller it will only revert back to 1/4". What I have been having to do is this, dimension as necessary and after completing a few dimensions I select the completed dimensions, right click them for properties and then manually reduce text height and arrow size by using the calculator function in that menu. If I do nothing the height is showing up at the ¼” when I plot as indicated. The ¼” size is too big for a dimension height. When I make the manual change the height produced is about 1/8” which is great its just that it takes double the work. Has anyone had this happen to them and is there something that I am doing incorrectly? Thanks Aaron Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Sounds like somewhere you pre-designated your text height. One place this can happen is in the Text Styles dialog box. Have you checked? Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 I have checked the text style and it is set to 0. My dimscale is 1. Appreciate both your thoughts though. Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Are the dimensions on a separate layer? Could the dimensions be annotative? Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 It seems that i cannot set a value for any of my dimension style options to anything less than 1/4". I just tried using a tutorial to create a new dim style and some of the suggested values were 1/16, 3/16 etc., my current set up will not allow this. I am very confused by this, it makes no sense, i feel like reinstalling the program and starting from scratch. Although i don't see why that would do anything unless i have inadvertently selected a feature or option that is the source of the problem. Aaron Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 I do have a layer created for dimensions which i use, i do not understand what annotative means or does. Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 You know I just replicated your problem by going to Text Style and setting the height to 1/4". When I go back into my DimStyle and check the Text tab, Text height is grayed out. I did it a second time and set the height to 1" in the Text Style dialog box and when I inserted a dimension guess what text height I got? Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 1" I set the text height to 0 and still it does not work. This is really starting to bug me. The text style is not grayed out in dim style for me though regardless of what i set the text style height at. I read somewhere the other day to leave the text height at 0 so that it does not affect the dim text height. Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 You are correct. All I was doing was trying to replicate your problem which I did. OK. What is the source of the drawing? And, what font are you using? Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 If by source you mean my hard drive and not an xref or something like that. The font was something else that i have been thinking about but wasn't sure if that would do it.I actually thought about that yesterday under the reasoning that it could not plot an smaller than 1/4" but it does when i manually scale it down with the calc function through properties. Anyway the font is Stylus BT, I am going to try changing it myself right now as well. I really appreciate your help so far. I gotta get these plans finished so that i can start building my house, lol. I haven't used much cad much since college for anything other than the review of plans at work and everything worked fine back then. The only obvious difference is that i am now drafting in imperial as opposed to metric. I actually did a set of plans for my brother around the same time last year and i had the same trouble. By the way the police are great! Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 By source I meant where did you get the drawing from. I thought perhaps that someone had sent you a drawing they had done and you were editing it. In the Text Styles dialog box is there a checkmark in the box labeled Annotative? If there is that could be what is giving you problems. In the DimStyles dialog box on the Primary Units tab is Scale Factor set to 1? Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 My hard drive and not an xref if that's what you mean. Stylus BT Quote
ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 My hard drive and not an xref if that's what you mean. Stylus BT I believe I have already answered your question. You stated you did the drawing yourself. I checked the font Stylus BT. It will go as small as 1/16th". Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Sorry about the last post i didn't think my previous one went through. I have been searching for the annotative option in various places and have not been able to find it. I have created the entire drawing from start to finish. Can files be attached to posts or could i email my drawing to you if you don't mind? That may make life easier and if you like the design by all means go ahead and build one just like it hahaha. ReMark Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Images and drawings can be attached to posts but there are strict file size limits. I would be willing to take a look at your drawing. I have someone designing a house for me as part of their coursework. I promise not to steal your design. Are you a builder by trade? Quote

aaronrobert Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 I'm a building inspector by profession. education wise I am a Journeymen Carpenter and a Civil Engineering Technologist which is were i learned how to use cad,.... well partially learned. If you want the design you can have it, this is the one and only time i will be using it. I'll see if i can figure out how to attach it. thanks Quote
aaronrobert Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Here it is! Go to one of my layout tabs, dimension in paper space and check it out. I'm confused. Aaron 129 Seal Cove Road.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Aaron: Not sure why your viewports don't show up where they should in your layouts. Example: the foundation plan is down and to the left of your layout. I'm assuming you are going to plot these on a 11x17 size paper right? You did not configure the Page Setup Manager. Quote
