helpmeplease Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 okay, so i made a 3d model in sketchup and then exported it as a dmg, dropped it in cad, and now i want to print orthographics using the different views (or preferred, save the views as images to the right scale). i have no idea how to do this because i'm not familiar with cad. all suggestions welcome. thanks! ReMark Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Your 3D model will appear in model space in AutoCAD. Your next step will be to go to your Layout. At this point we must stop. There are three or four methods that can be used to create orthographic views of your model. Since you have no AutoCAD background telling you what those methods are probably will have little to no meaning to you. Why did you decide to switch out of Sketchup and into AutoCAD? You couldn't create what you need in Sketchup? BTW...it usually isn't a good idea to post one's email address in a public forum. And finally, welcome to the CADTutor forum. Quote
helpmeplease Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 i was going to just edit the post and take out my email when i was done. i was in sketch up but when i go to the layout, if i put it at say 1:20 scale, it is way bigger than it should be. i switched to cad thinking maybe it was a sketchup flaw but cad is much more confusing. i know basic commands in cad but it's been a long time. i know how to show different ortho views but i just don't understand how to export them at the proper scales i need. ReMark Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 When you say you "know how to show different ortho views" what does that mean? Are you familiar at all with any of the following commands: Flatshot SolProf Combo commands of SolView and SolDraw If the answer is no then you need to read up on them (AutoCAD Help file) and try to make a determination of what might work best for you. In an AutoCAD layout a viewport (or more than one viewport) is created that allows the user to see back into model space and view the objects he/she has created. It is the viewport that a scale is applied to because when all is said and done we will print from our layout at 1:1 scale. AutoCAD will handle scaling the object(s) depicted in the viewport(s). BIGAL Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Heres a quick example of how to view in 3d Go to the layout tab then mview pick lower left upper right double click inside box Zoom e your object should appear vpoint 1,1,1 zoom e now zoom using mouse this is not to scale but gives you an idea of how to view in 3d vpoint 1,1,1 is 45 degs hor 45 degs vertical. If you want say left right front elevations try 1,0,1 0,1,0 etc you basicaly make as many mview windows as views you want then as per remark you need to know how to change the Autocad settings to give the best "picture" result, as a first try plot with Hide on in each view port.
