RyanAtNelco Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hello, I am having a problem with my dynamic blocks. I have one created that stretches, and has an attribute that updates depending on the length stretched (attached). The field i am using in the attribute is a "block place holder" that references a linear parameter distance. When i insert the block into the drawing (or even save as a new drawing), the field does not return a distance - it gives "####". In order to get the field to show up properly, I have to open the block with the block editor (edit in place does not work), edit the attribute (dont actually have to change anything), hit okay and save the block. The field then shows the appropriate distance, but if i save/close the drawing and reopen it, the field reverts back to "####". My question is, does anyone know of a way to reset this field without opening it up in the block editor? Its a pain to have to do it every time I open a drawing, especially with a drawing that has 200+ of these dynamic blocks. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! dblock error.zip Quote
dbroada Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I've never had much luck with using the block place holder. For what you are doing I am sure you can use the distance parameter directly. I'm sure that's what I use but I won't be able to check until I get to work on Monday. You do need to REGEN to get the field to update after the stretch though. Quote
RyanAtNelco Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 For a while, i was using the length of the line that made up the side of the block. I could not use this in my tool pallette without having a similar issue. Same thing when i used the parameter itself. I have had other issues and for me it seems like block place holder has the least amount of issues. Wether i use the line, the parameter, or the block place holder, there is always some issue where i have to recreate the attribute in the block, or sometimes it jsut does not work. Sometimes the text for the block ends up all the way accross the drawing. I can't make heads or tails of it. Quote
dbroada Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I use my blocks from a palette and don't have any problems using the parameter. I just couldn't get block place holder to work in anything other than the original block. Maybe that is a difference between our 2 versions. Quote
RyanAtNelco Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Block place holder still does not work unless you are creating a new attribute. Quote
matto235 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Everyone else in the office gets the '######' when they try and insert the block mine inserts and behaves how I would expect which makes me think it is a setting issue in autocad. Quote
