happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hi, I am working in another office today and for my sins I have been given a machine with AutoCAD 2006. The problem is non of the expres tools work neither does any of the draw order commands. I have unloaded/reloaded express tools but still get the following error message ; Command: layiso Unknown command "LAYISO". Press F1 for help. When I press F1 it can't find it either. What am I doing wrong? I won't be able to get the disc to install the express tools again as i'm only here for the day and IT normally take a day to get going. Cheers Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 It's not an LT version is it? Nope full ACAD. The express tool bar is loaded I just can't use any of the commands?? Quote
Fire_col Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Have you checked the program file to see that all the lisp routines are there? Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Have you checked the program file to see that all the lisp routines are there? What is the best way to go about that? Quote
Fire_col Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Right click on start>Explore>Local Disk (C: )>Program files>AUtoCAD2006>Express All the files that make the express tools work should be in there if they're not then that's where your problem lies. Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Maybe it is just a case of the Express Tools folder NOT being listed in the Support File Search Path. Does this line, or something similar to it appear in Tools > Options > Files > Support File Search Path? C:\program files\autocad 2006\express Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Yes that folder is full of stuff? Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Yes that folder is full of stuff? What folder and what stuff are we talking about? Please be specific. I can't tell if you are asking me or telling me. Quote

C:\program files\autocad 2006\express That is there and I have just re-pathed it just to be sure. Re-pathing done the trick. Thank you very much. xx Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Ah it's still not working in this particular drawing file. Must be a problem with it?? Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Close AutoCAD, then reopen it and try again. If that doesn't work bring up the Layers II toolbar. Is the Layer Isolate command on the toolbar? Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 It's working with other drawings now but still a problem with this one. I'll try WBLOCK on it and hopefully that will do the trick. AUDIT fixed 137 errors but still the problem is there. Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The Layer Isolate tool works within other drawings but not the one you're working on? Really? That just doesn't make sense. What's with trying WBlock? What are you hoping to accomplish? Quote

What's with trying WBlock? What are you hoping to accomplish? The drawing I am working on contains 2 xrefs. I opened up both them to try layer isolate it worked on one and not the other so I have WBLOCK the faulty one and after the WBLOCK layer isolate works on it. I have now re loaded both xrefs back into the drawing and...... It still doesn't work. Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Now I know why I don't use Xrefs in my drawings. Sometimes they are more trouble than they are worth. Thanks for the reminder. Sorry to hear that your root problem still plagues you. However, I'll take some small part of the credit in getting Express Tools back on line. I can't think of a logical reason why the command won't work unless the layer you are trying to isolate is included in the Xref. Is that the case? Quote

You certainly can take some credit - I wish we had a reputation button where we could rep other members ofr giving advice. It's no particular layer - it's the entire drawing! the command simply doesn't work. I have now xref the 2 drawings into a blank sheet and the command still works. I'm now going to bring in the text and title block and see what happens. Annoying!! Thnaks for your help, much appreciated. Quote
happyunited Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Just a quick one; If you don't use xrefs what would you do if you had 20 drawings needing the same 10Mb background in each drawing??? Quote
ReMark Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Your comment is much appreciated. And you're entirely welcomed. Let us know what finally happens. I'll be curious to see if the workaround does the trick. Quote
