Are you using Refedit to make minor or major changes to the referenced drawing?

It's just this one drawing you're trying to xref that you're having the problem with right? Would you be willing to let someone else take a look at the drawing?

I Refedit usually to remove a set of parts to keep in the new drawing. This changes all of the time from a few to many parts. Currently, I cannot take any parts at all from it.

I'll make a copy and try to get it on here, but it is a huge file- nearly 2 megs. Not sure if it is allowed here while that large? I'll do some checking...

The problem seems to be only with this drawing.

Thanks, doug

I've heard that term, but have no idea how to do it! Sorry once again...

Did I mention that I hate being the rookie yet?

I figured out how to zip the file, but it's still 1.31 megs- too large to post here. I will try to downsize it further and get it up ASAP.

I had to almost eliminate the entire drawing to get it small enough to post. This is all that is left. Not sure how much it will help...

Here's hoping :)

I don't know if this is your problem but there are entirely too many layer filters in that drawing. Try deleting all of those and try it then. I didn't get the error message "AcDbT...." you first reported. I am using 2010.

I'm not sure where to find them or how to get rid of them. I'll do a search and try to educate myself. Thanks, doug

I figured out how to delete layer filters! In the small drawing that I posted, it went into another drawing and worked fine. I went to my full sized master file, deleted the layer filters, but still have the same problem. Inserts fine, but cannot be Refedited... same error...

Still some good news- I'm learning a lot!

Thanks guys, doug

After much experimenting, I have found a temporary work-around. Possible clue? If I Xref the drawing into another, then bind it, I can then modify it with the Refedit command.

This problem has also shown up on another drawing. This second drawing is another master copy that has been heavily modified through the years as well. Hmmm...

The work-around has stopped working. Apparently it does not work on the larger, full sized models. Dangit!

Sounds like you have some real problems with you're two master drawings. That's not good news. How many other master drawings are there?

Posted

There is a master for each client. Probably 7-8 that we use frequently. All but 2 are working fine. It might be time to start "fresh" on these two problem files...

Is there a "FLATTEN" type command that works in AutoCAD 2004? Just a shot in the dark...

If there isn't you can try the one here at CT. Look in the AutoLISP Archive forum.

Thanks, ReMark. Will do. I have never used lisps, but it may be time to learn...

Refer to the CT AutoCAD FAQ section. Look under Customization for an article about how to use AutoLISP routines.

I'm going there now- thanks again! doug

That was very informative. I learned a lot in a short time. I shouldn't have put off lisps for so long!

I'm off to find my flattening lisp!

Try the one attached, it is a good one. Hope it fixes your files. Drag it from your files explorer into autocad, type SUPERFLATTEN to start. SF might be a shortcut for it.

I don't remember but you have used purge and audit on all the files, right?
