eldin Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Ive got a question: When I use a command I type the shortcut -> Rightclick like move is M + Rightclick, line is L + Rightclick, etc. Only when I first select the objects, and then type M, and rightclick, it shows the shortcut menu. Is there a way of changing this? (its not in Options -> Right-click Customization).. I use Autocad 2011 LT. Quote
BWells Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 What your running into is verb/noun commanding. Your right click is more than likely set to act like pressing the enter button. Noun/verb commands just don't play as nice. the shortcut menu is showing up because autocad doesn't know what your trying to do. My advise would be to adjust your drafting style to get used to verb/noun commanding. (ie M then right click) this way cad knows what you want to do and you can continue through the job. Quote
eldin Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Ok, thats to bad then.. Thanks for the quick reply! Quote
BWells Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Honestly i had the same habit when i first started drawing in CAD. I was driven to adjust so i didn't have to look at the shortcut menu all the time. it just didn't give me the seamless drawing experience that i was shooting for. Quote
dbroada Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I find spacebar or return far easier to use than right click if you are just entering commands. Quote

BWells Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Escape for me. Yeah same here. my hand actually rests on that key and moves for everything else. i have no idea why. Quote
MikeScott Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 heh.. yeah.. this is another case of moving forward as the technology changes. The right-click menus won't go away because too many folks have been trained to use them. Eventually, those that use the right click for enter will have to adapt. I hate that stuff.. I'm so much faster when I right-click enter... I'm almost hitting the keyboard key at the same time I'm clicking enter, and I'm doing it without thinking. It's hard to adjust away from that to accomodate "improvements". I have a hard enough time remembering that "za" no longer means "Zoom All" I use it very infrequently now (only when the mousewheel scrolls out but can't go far enough) so it's harder to remember to right-click between the letters. Soon, I won't even be able to do that, I guess. "LI" took awhile to leave my consciousness too. That was "Line from intersection" back before the osnaps toggled them off and on. I still type-in my osnaps (int, mid, quad, end, etc..).. That used to be a pain because if I wasn't paying attention and typed "end" when I'd already gotten an error on the line command or something, it used to save the file and close autocad.. I guess that's something that happened to a lot of folks. That's why if you type "end" these days, it says: "Discontinued command. Use the QUIT command to exit AutoCAD." Quote
dbroada Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I still type-in my osnaps (int, mid, quad, end, etc..).. that's the one thing I use the right click for - shift right click brings up a snap override box which I use most of the time I need osnaps. Quote
MikeScott Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 hmm.. seems like a good place for 'em. I'll have to look. Perhaps I was too quick to disable the right-click menu stuff? Quote

Have it set so you right-click will act as Enter, but if you hold down right-click for XX ms, it will display the right-click menu - best of both worlds. Quote
